It’s official – Rum has been declared the new gin! There’s been a real surge in new brands available here in the UK, joining some of the more well-known labels you may already be familiar with. Here at the Parlour Bar we stock a variety of smaller, artisan producers as well as tried and tested rum stalwarts. Dead Man’s Fingers
Why should the Caribbean have all the fun? This small-batch rum is produced in the Philippines, or more specifically the island of Sugarlandia as it’s known locally, where rather unsurprisingly they make some of the world’s sweetest sugar cane. Rich, smooth and powerful – the underlying sweetness is backed up with marmalade, cinnamon and dried fruits which works well in cocktails and on the rocks.
Plantation Pineapple Stiggins Fancy Rum is a rich and delicious bouquet, accented by smoky notes and aromas of tropical fruit, pineapple, citrus peel and a touch of clove. The palate opens with a structured, pleasant sensation of ripe banana, pineapple and spices layered in a smoky finish.
The Kraken Black Spiced Rum is promising to cause a 'perfect storm' in the rum category. An aged Caribbean rum enriched with exotic spices including cinnamon, ginger and clove. Strong, rich, black, smooth 40% ABV rum packaged in a distinctive 70cl Victorian 'flagon-style' clear glass bottle. The brand takes its name from a legendary, mythical sea beast - a squid of monstrous size said to grow up to 100ft long - which attacks ships and devours their crews.
While the smooth taste of the Kraken lends itself to be enjoyed as sipping rum, it can also be enjoyed as a key ingredient in traditional cocktails like the kraken & cola, or create a perfect storm by adding ginger beer and lime.
Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum was developed after loads of historical research into maritime rums. The all-natural spices and flavors we chose give our rum a rich, smooth taste characterized by top notes of vanilla and cinnamon. More than anything else, it's our spicing that's responsible for the distinctive character, smoothness and versatility of our rum.
From the Caribbean to…. Cornwall. Dreamt up in St Ives’ Rum and Crab Shack, this is a fun, vibrant bottle that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Kick back, relax and enjoy with coke. Where a blended rum meets exotic spices to create a unique and distinctive flavour profile. Those familiar with Saffron cake will certainly find a hint of that alongside notes of Pedro Ximénez Ice cream. Next comes a whisper of creamy caramel followed by vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg and of course, those subtly sweet undertones of orange. Some have even found notes of pineapple, dried raisins and a pinch of black pepper – but we think they’re just showing off.
